The Litera Literary Award was established in 2015 by the Writers’ House of Georgia and the Ministry of Culture. Since 2021, when the Ministry of Culture and Sports grossly interfered in the jury’s work, prompting most writers to boycott the award, Litera has been presented by the PEN Georgia. The award recognizes the best books of the year in six categories:
- Best Debut of the Year
- Best Documentary Prose of the Year
- Best Poetry Collection of the Year
- Best Prose Collection of the Year
- Best Novel of the Year
- PEN Center Special Prize
